La fanciulla del West (The Girl of the West) was an opera about an American woman who sacrifices her friends and home for love written by Giacomo Puccini. Puccini composed the opera after his meeting with Anna Mary Jones, who he failed to draw away from her husband Henry Jones Sr in 1908.[1]
