Lawrence Kasdan is an American filmmaker who wrote the screenplay for Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981. Kasdan also co-wrote the the Star Wars films The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens and Solo: A Star Wars Story. He also wrote The Bodyguard (1992) and served as writer-director of Body Heat (1981), The Big Chill (1983), Silverado (1985), The Accidental Tourist (1988) and Dreamcatcher (2003).

On December 30, 1997, the website Ain't It Cool News sparked the rumor that Kasdan was again hired by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas to write the the fourth Indiana Jones film.[1] Though Kasdan had no formal credit on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, screenwriter David Koepp collaborated with him on the movie's "love dialogue".[2]

His son Jonathan Kasdan later contributed to the development of the fifth Indiana Jones film.
