Indiana Jones had the weapon used against him on some of his adventures and had handled the gun himself on occasion.
History
A pilot tried to kill Indiana Jones with a Luger when the archaeologist was embroiled in a fist fight with a large, brutal mechanic in the desert near Cairo, though he was knocked out by Marion Ravenwood before he could kill Jones with it.
During his search for the Holy Grail in 1938, he appropriated a Luger from a soldier before shooting him with it, though he was surprised when the bullet passed through his target and two others. Colonel Ernst Vogel also used a Luger against Jones, though he failed to hit the archaeologist.
Behind the scenes
The Parabellum-Pistole (Pistol Parabellum), popularly (but incorrectly) known as the Luger, is a toggle locked, recoil operated, semi-automatic pistol. The design was patented by Georg J. Luger in 1898 and produced by German arms manufacturer Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) starting in 1900; it was an evolution of the Hugo Borchardt designed C-93 but later replaced by a more likely simple handgun called the Walther P38.
Due to its use by Nazi officers, it usually appears being used by a German officer such as Ernst Vogel in the movies and some video games.
It is generally thought that Toht uses a Luger P08 during the shootout in The Raven, but he uses the similar-looking Walther P38.
