The MP 18 is a German submachine gun introduced into service in 1918 by the Imperial German Army during World War I.
Although MP 18 production ended after World War I, it was highly influential on subsequent small arms design. The MP 18 received several upgrades, including the MP 28. It is the predecessor to the MP 40. Indiana Jones encountered this weapon a few times in his journeys.
History[]
In 1937, Indiana Jones encountered the MP 28 in the hands of many German soldiers in Egypt, the Himalayas and Siam while trying to unravel the mysteries' of the Great Circle. He made use of the weapon many times during his journey, most notably, in Siam during a boat chase.[1]
In 1938, after finding the Tomb of Sir Richard, Indy and Elsa Schneider were chased by members of the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword. Their leader, Kazim, took out a Haenel-Schmeisser MP28/II and fired it at the pair during a boat chase. While a few bullets hit the boat, none hit Indy or Elsa.[2]
Later that year, German soldiers armed with MP 28s were among the retinue of Walther Donovan who was looking for the Holy Grail in the Hatay State. When the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword ambushed the Germans with M1916 Spanish Mausers and Czech vz. 24 rifles, the MP 28 submachine gunners moved forward and dealt with the threat, massacring the brotherhood members.[2]
