Indiana Jones Wiki

Machete Landing (or Machete Junction) was a small, remote river outpost that lay along the Amazon River in South America.

History[]

Machete Landing was originally established by missionaries who sought to bring Christianity to the local native South American people. However, they were ill-prepared for the harsh jungle environment full of diseases carried by tropical insects and many lost their lives. The site was abandoned and eventually taken over by a criminal element. The outpost would come to be owned by its dockmaster, named Paco, who served in turn as its "mayor".[1]

Peruvian guides Barranca and Satipo were based out of Machete Landing around 1936. That year, Indiana Jones hired the two men as the pair possessed part of a map vital to finding the Temple of the Chachapoyan Warriors within which sat the fertility idol.[1]
