Machete Landing (or Machete Junction) was a small, remote river outpost that lay along the Amazon River in South America.
History
Machete Landing was originally established by missionaries who sought to bring Christianity to the local native South American people. However, they were ill-prepared for the harsh jungle environment and many lost their lives. The site was abandoned and eventually taken over by a criminal element.
Peruvian guides Barranca and Satipo were based out of Machete Landing around 1936. That year, Indiana Jones hired the two men as the pair possessed part of a map vital to finding the Temple of the Chachapoyan Warriors which the fertility idol.
