Marion's Theme was a lullaby played with scenes around Marion Ravenwood, composed by John Williams. It is the love theme first introduced in Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, and used again for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. As the motif for Marion, it is first heard in Raiders of the Lost Ark when Marcus Brody mentions her as Indiana packs to visit her in Nepal (Album track title: A Thought For Marion/To Nepal), and ultimately appears lastly in the ending credits, as part of the complete Raiders March.
The piece has a slow and warm feel to it, and is often used in the film to reflect the status of Indy and Marion's relationship at that point. Eventually, it reaches its most beautiful, bold and amorous form as Indy and Marion share a quiet, romantic break from the action on Katanga's ship. The music is slow and gentle as it gradually builds to an emphatic crest. This particular piece is listed on the Raiders of the Lost Ark soundtrack album as Marion's Theme/The Crate. It includes Marion's Theme, as heard in the scene on Katanga's ship, and is followed by a short, gravelly, dissonant bit of music, corresponding with the scene of the Ark burning through its crate.
Another especially beautiful version of the cue is played during the wedding of Indy and Marion at the end of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and is heard on the track Finale on the soundtrack album. It appears again in the following ending credits, much as it did for the first film; complementing and completing the theme for Indiana Jones, the Raiders March.
