The Mask of Camozotz was made of polished jade with gold and white gold, and inserts of ruby. It was found by Indiana Jones and Deirdre Campbell in Tikal, Guatemala in March, 1926.

The mask represented the face of Camozotz, a Mayan god depicted as part human and part bat. A run-in with a band of huaqueros, graverobbers, ultimately led to all the artifacts found by Jones and his group being confiscated by the Guatemalan army.

Indiana Jones kept a sketch of the mask in his journal.

Behind the scenes[]

The Lost Journal of Indiana Jones uses the more accepted spelling Camazotz, while Indiana Jones and the Seven Veils uses the spelling Camozotz.
