Masks of Evil is the seventeenth film (or chapter) in The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones. It is edited from the episodes "Transylvania, January 1918" and "Istanbul, September 1918."

Publisher's summary

A top-secret mission for French Intelligence brings Indy to Istanbul during the First World War. Exploring the city's dark and dangerous streets, he is thrust into a web of betrayal and murder when he discovers a vile Turkish plot to assassinate French espionage agents. Evil of a more enduring kind awaits him in Transylvania where he engages in mortal combat with bloodthirsty Vlad the Impaler and his horrific army of the living dead. With his very life at stake, Indy must garner all his strength and wits in order to defeat the fiend and save mankind.

Continuity issue

Assembled from the episodes "Transylvania, January 1918" and "Istanbul, September 1918", the story is presented as having the events of Istanbul occur prior to Transylvania. The bridging segment between the two halves is a conversation between Indy and one of his agents in Istanbul, in which Indy reveals that he is being transfered to Venice, and his agent reveals that he had a dream in which Indy is surrounded by evil and blood (which is what awaits him on his first mission from Venice to Transylvania).
