Menes was a Pharaoh, the founder of ancient Egypt's First Dynasty.
In 1934, while exploring beneath the Great Sphinx and the Great Pyramid of Giza, Indiana Jones and his friend Sallah found a chamber where every Egyptian king from Menes to the Late Period Thirtieth Dynasty was named, a feat Jones claimed was impossible as the structure could not have been built before the Middle Kingdom.
