Milos Fortier's wife was married to the the predecessor of National Museum curator Marcus Brody. She started having problems with her husband around the same time he uncovered some bones which had supposedly belonged to an evil deity and started having drinking problems. Shortly afterwards, her husband committed suicide, leaving Mrs Fortier a widow.[1]
Several people who knew Fortier pinned the blame on the influence the "evil bones" he had found though the museum's accountant, Harvey Pondexter, believed that Fortier's marital difficulties and drinking were the true cause.[1]
