Nainsukh was one of the children kidnapped from Mayapore by the Thuggee, and forced to work in the mines beneath Pankot Palace.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Nainsukh was Indiana Jones and Short Round's cellmate when they were captured and imprisoned by the Thuggee guards in 1935. He took the opportunity to inform Indy about the Black Sleep of the Kali Ma and what it did to someone. He explained that he was too old to work in the mines, and he prayed to Shiva to let him die. Instead, he was later forced to drink the Blood of Kali and fell into the Black Sleep of the Kali Ma, whereupon he served as Mola Ram's assistant.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Nainsukh is named and appears in the novelization, storybook and comic adaptation of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

In the final film, Nainsukh's dialogue was split between two characters, listed in the credits as 1st Boy in Cell and 2nd Boy in Cell, played by Arjun Pandher and Zia Gelani respectively. It's unclear whether or not Nainsukh is the name of either boy.

Suzanne Weyn's 2008 junior novelization of the film also gives the dialogue to just one (unnamed) character.
