The Necronomicon was a work compiled by a so-called "Mad Arab" which threatened to be a pathway into a world of horror.
Behind the scenes[]
The Necronomicon is a fictional grimoire from H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos included by the Close Encounters of the Random Kind feature of Shadis in a list of artifacts as ideas for players of The World of Indiana Jones, and cited as an example of how the items could also be applied to other Earth-based RPGs such as Call of Cthulhu and Chill.
With the magazine feature itself being an unlicensed Indiana Jones source, albeit one which used the brand with permission, and being drawn from a different franchise altogether, the Necronomicon's bearing (if any) on the wider Indiana Jones continuity is dubious at best.
