Neddie Watson was the aged African-American owner of the pawnshop which formed part of the trading post at Bluff.

Biography[]

Neddie Watson joined the US Army, serving around 1863'64, during which time he was a part of the long walk of Navajo from Arizona to Fort Defiance, New Mexico, an event which he'd look back on as a waste of time and life.[1]

Watson eventually became the proprietor of a pawnshop at a trading post in Bluff. In 1918, he unknowingly bought the alicorn, a staff made the horn of a unicorn. Under his ownership of the alicorn, Watson's shop burned down twice. When he eventually sold the staff on, he was glad to be rid it, blaming the artifact for the fires.[1]

On his eightieth birthday, in 1920, Watson took up the bagpipes using a set that had sat in his store for six years. While still considering himself a learner, Watson played together with jazz musician Jack Shannon eight years later. After their performance, Shannon introduced Watson to Indiana Jones who was trying to track down the alicorn.[1]
