Nenu was a Nubian archer who was depicted on a Limestone Tablet dated as almost four thousand years old.[1]
In 1939, Indiana Jones found the tablet in an alcove inside the tunnel that led to the back entrance of the Sudan Temple. The alcove was blocked by a thick spider web, and contained human skeletons.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The limestone tablet is based on an actual artifact, it was an Egyptian grave marker found in Gebelein in Upper Egypt. It is known as the "Stela of the Nubian soldier Nenu", or "The Stela of Nenu". The tablet depicts a mercenary called Nenu, his Egyptian wife Sekhathor, their son and daughter, a servant, and Nenu’s hunting dogs. The three males and the daughter wear Nubian costumes while the wife wears a white Egyptian dress.
