New Delhi is the capital of India. Built as a planned city, New Delhi is in the center of the much larger city of Delhi, located in the center of the country. The town is several days away from Mayapore by elephant.
Adventures in New Delhi
In 1935, Indiana Jones met Willie Scott in Shanghai and commented in his journal by her photo that he could probably travel to Delhi and back in the time it took her to do her hair. Soon after, Jones Short Round and Willie Scott crash landed near Mayapore and tried to get a ride to New Delhi. Their journeys took them to Pankot Palace and the Temple of Doom instead.
In 1937, Indiana Jones traveled to New Delhi to meet a woman who wanted to sell a golden statue of Shiva to the museum. Unfortunately, the woman's husband, Rajid mistook their meeting as an affair and began shooting at Jones. Jones barely escaped with the statue by falling out of a window onto a snake charmer. Fleeing from the marketplace, Jones made it to the docks.
Behind the scenes
It seems unusual for New Delhi (or Delhi) to have ocean-going ships docked, since the city does not have a deep water port. Delhi is on the Yamuna River, a tributary of the Ganges River.
