Behind the scenes[]
Indiana Jones and the Sargasso Pirates author Karl Kesel based New Jersey Jones on the J. Wellington Wimpy, a character from cartoonist E. C. Segar's Popeye the Sailor Man comic strips, who particularly said he was one of the "Jones boys" like New Jersey does in the comic. Kesel recalled writing New Jersey Jones as one of his favorite parts of penning the comic.[2]
