Nineveh was an ancient city, one of the oldest in the world, said in legend to have been founded by Noah's great-grandson Nimrod.
The settlement was later destroyed by the Babylonians in the 6th century BC.
History[]
Indiana Jones briefly visited the ruins of Nineveh in 1934 with Faye and Mystery Maskelyne while journeying in search of the Yezidi who were in possession of the Staff of Aaron. However, the Yezidi had actually been following the group for the past ten miles.[1]
In 1937, during his research into the Great Circle, Nazi archaeologist Emmerich Voss found a stele at the Ziggurat of Ur — the resting place of Noah's Ark — which held Sumerian carvings that described "descendants of those who survived" as having taken a "gift" to Nineveh. His excavation report, recovered by Indiana Jones, noted an intent to see whether or not the gift still rested there after the Great Circle operation but was killed meddling with powers he couldn't comprehend.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Nineveh was a real city which fell in the 7th century BC, not the 6th as asserted by Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Sphinx.
