Normandy is a region in Northern France. During World War II the Nazis invaded Normandy in the early 1940s. The region was liberated by the Allies in 1944 which caused a major turning point in the conflict.
History[]
In 1940, the Nazis invaded Normandy and occupied the region until D-Day when the Allies, involving the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Free France, coordinated a massive build-up of troops and supplies to support a large-scale liberation of the German-held territory. The D-Day landings of June 6, 1944 were coordinated under the code name Operation Overlord.[1]
