OBCPO1

Jock's seaplane

OB-CPO was the callsign of Jock Lindsey's seaplane. Jock hired out his aircraft to fly Indiana Jones into and out of a South American jungle.[1]

Behind the scenes

The plane's callsign OB-CPO is an inside joke aimed at Star Wars fans ("OB" refers to Obi-Wan Kenobi and "CPO" refers to C-3PO). Nods to the Lucasfilm Ltd. sci-fi franchise would continue in subsequent Indiana Jones works, especially the OB-CPPO plane, which is referenced in Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb with Lindsey's planed being called OB1. The "OB-CPO" name was also included in the LEGO Indiana Jones set "Temple Escape!".

The real life aircraft that was used in Raiders of the Lost Ark was a Waco Aircraft Company UBF-2. The plane sits on display near the Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull theme park attraction at Disneyland Tokyo.[2]

At some point during the 1990s, it was presented a Raiders playset prototype to the Galoob Micro Machines company in order to make it an actual set. The set included two sectors from the film, Peru and Egypt, with Jock Lindsey's OB-CPO appearing at the Peru sector. The set, however, was never approved and went unproduced.[3]
