Osiris was the pet snake of Dame Nawal Shafiq-Barclay and named after the Egyptian god of the dead.
Biography[]
In October 1937, archaeologist Indiana Jones encountered Osiris when he first met Dame Nawal Shafiq-Barclay in a tent on the outskirts of Giza while chasing the mystery of the Great Circle. While she discussed business with Gina Lombardi, an old Italian friend traveling with Jones, she asked the American professor to feed Osiris. Not wanting to advertise his ophidiophobia, Jones agreed but carried out the otherwise mundane task with a considerable amount of anxiety.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game director Jerk Gustafsson cited that Osiris' inclusion in the game was a way to establish the title character's ophidiophobia to audiences potentially unfamiliar with his lifelong aversion to snakes.[2]
