Paco was Indiana Jones' assistant at the Temple of the Crystal Skull. He ignored Jones' warnings over the Temple's dangers and set up a business to allow tourists to enter.
Biography[]
Around the summer of 1931, Paco was the assistant to Indiana Jones when the archaeologist travelled to the Lost River Delta of Cusco, Peru.[1] There, Jones joined forces with the League of Adventurers so they could combine separate halves of the same map to seek out the Temple of the Crystal Skull. Upon reaching the temple, the League was chased out by the temple's guardian spirit, a Crystal Skull.
Paco worked with Jones to excavate the temple and attempted to find the legendary Fountain of Youth within. When Jones went missing while exploring the interior, Paco opened the temple up for public tours as a means of obtaining the funds to continue their expedition and bring in new eyes to look out for the archaeologist. One of these tours ran afoul of the Crystal Skull but was saved by Indiana Jones who escaped the temple alongside them.[2]
By 1938, Paco had written a seven volume Temple Tours book series with each installment detailing a different chamber of the Temple of the Crystal Skull.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
Paco was portrayed by Japanese actor Katsuhisa Hōki and developed for the Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull attraction at Tokyo DisneySea in 2001. He fulfilled a similar role to that of Sallah in Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye and hosted a video for Japanese audiences.
Another character named Paco had earlier been introduced in West End Games' 1994 Raiders of the Lost Ark Sourcebook as the self-styled mayor of Machete Landing in South America. Whether or not the two characters are separate people or intended to be one and the same is unclear.
