The Pan Pipe Player was a older Greek man who was on a journey in the Greek countryside in 1910. He hitched a ride on a cart, heading away from Athens, with several other passengers and chickens. Later, the cart stopped to pick up two more hitchhikers, an American man and his son. While the new passengers kept a conversation going in English, the musician played on his pan pipes as they rode along. At some point in the journey, the older man gave a spare set of pan pipes to the boy. Eventually, the cart reached a fork in the road, and the two Americans got off toward Kalambaka, while the piper continued toward Thrace.
