The phoenix is a mythological bird which regenerates in a cycle and associated with resurrection.
By 1939, Barnett College kept a group of items called the Phoenix Collection in storage at Caswell Hall, a building which held artifacts of dubious origins.[1]
A frieze on the tomb of Archimedes was decorated with a phoenix which, in 1969, Indiana Jones initially dismissed as a common icon until his goddaughter Helena Shaw pointed out that it had propellers, the first piece of evidence that the Antikythera buried with the inventor really could locate fissures in time.[2]
