Pincoya is one of the countries of the Interior world, on the inside of the earth's crust, and home of the Pincoyan people. An island monarchy, Pincoya also referred to the primary island and the city built thereon. The region has gateways to the surface world, including an offshore portal that connects to offshore of Chiloé Island, Chile.

Geography[]

Pincoya is the name of the entire region, which contains seas and at least one island, covered by a city. Both the island and city were also named Pincoya.[1]

The city was carved out of a single mountain, with all the buildings being the sculpted out of the same gigantic rock. With its buildings clustered together, it has the appearance of being one big multi-part building. The city lacked visible fortifications while a sheltered bay provided a harbor for ships.[1]

The city had a large central plaza with a massive waterfall that fell from a tall building into a pool and then into a subterranean chamber that led to Minhocoa. The pool was surrounded by statues of part-animal, part-human creatures. The city had been built around the waterfall, which according to legend was a river to the mouth of a giant snake, Minhocoa, that guarded the gate between worlds. Several staircases and corridors away from the main plaza lay several jail cells.[1]

Adventures in the Interior World[]

In late 1928 or early 1929, the Wayuan leader Maleiwa took control of Pincoya from King Vicard, who was forced to flee to Roraima.[1]

In June, the Caleuche arrived from the sea gate from Chiloé, carrying Salandra, Indiana Jones, Sacho and several others, along with a quantity of recently-processed nalca. Pincoyans now loyal to Maleiwa used dart crossbows to subdue Jones and Salandra. The two were imprisoned separately for several days, until one day when Jones was moved to Salandra's cell. Maleiwa arrived to explain that Salandra would have to watch Jones slowly disintegrate from the lack of nalca. However, with the help of a loyal guard, the two escaped. They fought their way back to the central plaza and jumped into the waterfall. Underground rivers rushed them out of Pincoya and into subterranean pools inside Minhocoa.[1]

When Jones decided to tell the surface world of the interior world's existence, Marcus Brody stopped him, and pointed out that Pincoya was the name of a creature in Chiloé mythology, akin to a mermaid, but with legs and not flippers.[1]
