Quetzalcoatl

Quetzalcoatl (Nahuatl: plumed serpent) was a major god of both the Aztec and Olmec religions.

The deity's serpentine incarnation was supposedly summoned by the Babylonian disciple, Azerim, to guard his part of the Infernal Machine; in the adventures of Indiana Jones, "Quetzalcoatl" is used as the implied name for Azerim's guardian. This guardian resembled a colossal snake, dozens of feet in length and with a body as thick as a very large tree trunk, having a ring of feathers around its neck. The monster was able to fire living, regular-sized snakes from its mouth.

Kept in a secret chamber beneath one of many unmarked pyramids in Teotihuacan, Mexico, the monstrous Quetzalcoatl was inadvertently released from his chamber by Indiana Jones in 1947, who had come for the Machine part. Although the archaeologist was fearful of snakes, especially big ones, Jones retrieved the part and impaled Quetzalcoatl to death through a system of platforms within the pyramid that thrust several spear-like spikes up from the ground, into the monster's body.

Although it is not known if the monster was actually the snake embodiment of the god Quetzalcoatl, it is undeniable that monster was created by magical means since, after it had been impaled a number of times, it exploded in a multitude of fireballs.
