Quint's Barber Shop was situated a short distance away from Arnie's Diner in the Marshall College town of Bedford, Connecticut.
History[]
In 1957, Mutt Williams and Indiana Jones drove past Quint's Barber Shop on Williams's motorcycle after they instigated a fight at Arnie's Diner to escape a pair of KGB agents trailing them.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The exterior buildings outside Arnie's Diner, including Quint's Barber Shop, were shot at Paramount Studios in 2007,[2] specifically on the New York Backlot.[3] Before the shoot switches to the on-location filming in New Haven for the motorcycle chase,[2] the barber shop is briefly visible on-screen in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull but its name isn't apparent without scrutiny of two separate shots in behind-the-scenes footage.[2]
The name is likely a reference to director Steven Spielberg's film Jaws which includes Quint as a main character.[4] Arnie's Diner was named after Spielberg's father,[5] and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull's still photographer, David James, was given a namesake with a hatter/tailoring business for the same set.[6]
