The Ram's Head Bust was the artifact of primary significance of the Nubian pyramid complex in Sudan. The idol of the head of a ram, with horns, was placed on a pedestal in the center of one of the rooms of the temple.
In 1939, Magnus Völler and his German Desert Commandos has arrived at the temple and started searching for the ram's head idol, entering the pyramid through the main entrance. Indiana Jones found the back entrance of the temple through a cave in the mountains, and reached the room containing the idol first. As he entered the chamber, the dais around the idol's pedestal fell away, and flames erupted around the bust. Jones used his whip to pull the idol towards him, and carried it through some of the traps of the structure. When Jones reached the entry room, a Nazi soldier saw him and drew a pistol, as Völler came in to claim the bust from Jones. Thinking quickly, Jones tossed the head at the soldier, who dropped his gun to catch it. The weight of the bust pushed the soldier back over a shaft in the center of the room. Völler reached out and grabbed the bust, keeping the soldier from falling into the pit. With his opponents busy, Jones escaped from the pyramid, without the main treasure.

It is not clear if the ram's head bust is directly related to the search for the Staff of Kings, or if the adventure in Sudan is merely a precursor to the rival adventures between Jones and Völler in the search for Charles Kingston and the Staff of Kings.
