The Principal SS Officer at Castle Brunwald was flanked by two guards in 1938. One on his left and one on his right.

Biography[]

When Indiana Jones broke into one of Castle Brunwald's bedrooms in 1938 in an attempt to rescue his father, an SS officer and his two guards burst into the room and demanded the Grail diary. Following an argument between the father and son, Jones knocked the officer into the wall, took his gun, and shot all three men, with the one on right the first to go down, prompting Henry to show shock at what his son had done. The Joneses had to step over the man's dead body to exit the room.[1] Walter Donovan and the guards who later guarded the Joneses at the castle's common room found the "handiwork" Jones did with the soldier and his fellows shortly afterwards, regarding their murders as "un-gentlemantly behaviour", hence Colonel Ernst Vogel's desire to punish the Joneses for the deaths of his men by insisting their executions.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

The Right Principal SS Officer guard was portrayed by an uncredited performer in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.[1]

In the film's Read-Along Adventure adaptation, the Principal SS Officer at Castle comes to meet the Joneses with just one Nazi officer[3] rather than two.[1]
