The Rosetta Stone is an ancient stone carving inscribed in Ancient Egyptian and Greek languages.
History[]
Created in 196 BC, during the reign of Ptolemy V, the stone spoke of the pharaoh's gift of land to the temples.[1]
Centuries later, in 1799, the stone was rediscovered by French soldiers in Rosetta along the Mediterranean Sea which enabled the scholar Jean-François Champollion to use its text to eventually decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics.[2]
