Rossi was a member of Father Orlando Ricci's revived Cult of Mithras operating below Rome, Italy. He had reached the second degree of initiation–the Nymphus–by the time archaeologist Indiana Jones disrupted the cult's activities on October 23, 1937 and their fraternal Pater was killed.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The Cult of Mithras
As Father Orlando Ricci is the only cultist whose identity is explicitly shown on-screen in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Rossi could be any one or none of the masked non-player characters (NPCs) that are encountered in its DLC story expansion "The Order of Giants".[1]
Through in-game documentation, the Cult of Mithras in Great Circle is indicated to have close associations with powerful positions such as within the local police force and the Vatican's infrastructure. A Roberto Rossi who is the Party Secretary for the Italian Fascists of Florence is mentioned in one of the pieces of paper Indiana Jones (the player) can discover, with the possibility the he and the cultist Rossi are one and the same if assumed that he decided to kill his daughter Maria's fianceé Pietro Bianchi (who shares his last name with another cultist) to settle a family mattle.[1] That said, a Blackshirt named Giovanni Rossi is mentioned in the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Digital Art Book to share the same surname as well.[2] Whether any of these Rossis are connected or not is unclear.
