Biography[]
Rising to power[]
An occult-obsessed member of the Thule Society and a secretary for the German Workers' Party, Rudolf Hess was thrown into prison in 1923 after the failed Munich Beer Hall Putsch. During the several months serving his sentence there, Hess met Adolf Hitler, a fellow fanatic of the occult, becoming strong friends in the process. Following up his fellow Thule leaders by joining Hitler's Nazi movement as it gained prominence, Hess became Hitler's personal secretary once he was rleeased from prison.[1]
In 1932, once the Nazis came into power, Rudolf Hess was named the Deputy Leader of the Nazi Party, becoming Adolf Hitler's second-in-command, thus being assigned to be in charge of all of Germany's political and domestic policies. He married, with his wife and him becoming firm believers in every sort of magical and superstitious practices, with sources suggesting he went as far to drink certain potions and sleep with magnets to protect himself.[1]
Looking for the occult[]
In 1936, US Army Intelligence Major Eaton provided Indiana Jones with USA Army Intelligence profiles of Adulf Hitler and his top aides, which included Ruldolf Hess and his peculiarities aside Eaton's remarks on him, to warn the archaeologist of the gravity of the forces he was up against in pursuing the Ark of the Covenant.[1]
Between late October and early November 1937, news mentioning Rudolf Hess were broadcasted over radio stations in cities and settlements like the Vatican, Gizeh, Shanghai, Sukhothai and the Ziggurat of Ur, precisely during the Nazi expedition led by Third Reich Special Antiquities Collection agent Emmerich Voss to uncover the mystery of the Great Circle.[2]
Personality and traits[]
As noted by Major Eaton, Rudolf Hess was as mentally deranged as Adolf Hitler, with his devotion and beliefs in regards to the occult, superstition, and ego fueling Hitler's and viceversa, warpening and strenghtening each other's ideas. He and his wife deeply believed in multiple supernatural practices such as divination, dowsing, telepathy, astrology and demonology, going as far reportedly to regularly drink certain potions concocted from mystical instructions and sleep with magnets around his bed to draw harmful substances from his body while sleeping, placing his full beliefs in every pseudo-science and occult oddities in existence, aside his full faith on his Führer, with whom he shared insane ideas of German domination over the world.[1]

Rudolf Hess may have been one of the uncredited German officials observing the Berlin bookburning rally alongside Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Elsa Schneider and possibly Hermann Göring in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.[3]
Hess was later referenced in a news broadcast in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle when the game was updated to include MCs on the previously music only radio stations.[2]
