Based in New York City, Sallah's taxi was used by the Egyptian to transport passengers around the city.

History[]

During World War II, Sallah Mohammed Faisel el-Kahir and his family had emigrated to the United States of America where the Egyptian digger took a position as New York City cab driver.[1]

In 1969, on the run and framed for murder at Hunter College where he had just retired, Indiana Jones observed a TV news report through a storefront window when a man next to him suddenly realized that he was standing with the killer and tried to raise the alarm. Sallah suddenly sucker-punched the shouting man unconscious and apologized to his long-time friend for being late due to bridge traffic. The pair journeyed to Sallah's apartment where they discussed Jones's goddaughter Helena Shaw, whose sudden reappearance in the archaeologist's life had been a catalyst for the university killings.[1]

Sallah warned his friend that that leaving the country to pursue Shaw and the Antikythera segment she had stolen would be assumed to be an admission of guilt by the authorities but nevertheless drove Jones to John F. Kennedy International Airport for his fight to Tangier, Morocco.[1]
