"Eat lead, you swine!"
―Schiller[src]

Schiller was a German officer during World War I, active before and during the Battle of Bersheeba in 1917.

Biography[]

In 1917, Schiller was assigned to assist the Turks defending Beersheeba from the Allies. While the Turkish commanding officer Ismet Bey suspected that the Allies sought to attack the city, Schiller was convinced that they were not. Eventually he was proven wrong, however, and Bey fled the battle and left Schiller to deal with his own mess. Schiller attempted to blow up the remaining wells of the city, so that the Allied troops wouldn't access the water. His plan was thwarted by Indiana Jones, who engaged him in a fierce fist-fight. Before Schiller could blow up the last well, Jones shot him dead with his gun.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Captain Schiller was an intense and suspicious German intelligence officer. Arrogant and self-assured, Schiller condescended his Turkish allies, who operated a better spy network than himself. Although he played into Indiana Jones' elaborate deception, Schiller proved himself capable in hand-to-hand combat when the pair engaged in a lengthy fight.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Schiller was played by actor Daniel Craig in Daredevils of the Desert.[1] Craig would later become famous as the sixth actor to portray the lead character in the MGM James Bond films. Craig would also join Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford and director of the franchise's theatrical films, Steven Spielberg, in the film Cowboys and Aliens. Craig would also play another antagonist (who is similar to Schiller, due to their relentlessly ruthless personalities and both having facial hair) in an Oscar-nominated Indiana Jones-like performance capture 3D film directed by Spielberg, The Adventures of Tintin. Craig would later reunite with Ford and Lucasfilm in 2015 for a cameo appearance as a First Order stormtrooper on guard duty in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
