Behind the scenes[]
Jeffrey Boam's third revision for his Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade script originally included a mention to another member of Elsa Schneider: a grandmother, whom Elsa mentioned to have cooked some wonderful Palatschinken for breakfast, Leberknödelsuppe for lunch and maybe a nice Zwiebelrostbraten or a little Schwammerin Gebacken when she and Indiana Jones arrived at Castle Grunwald to rescue Henry Walton Jones, Senior.[1] Although Tom Stoppard retained many of Boam's ideas in the final script, the mention of Elsa's grandmother didn't make it into the shooting script.[2]
In a 2003 interview with DVDFile.com, along with Frank Marshall, Karen Allen and Kate Capshaw, Alison Doody was asked if she would be interested in reprising her role as Elsa Schneider for the then-gestating fourth Indiana Jones film, much like how Allen and Capshaw were interested in returning as Marion Ravenwood and Willie Scott. Due to her character's death, Doody jokingly suggested to Marshall that the fourth film could reveal that Elsa had a good twin sister who wished to clear up the Schneider family name.[3]
