This Sergeant was one of the Nazi soldiers serving under Colonel Dietrich and were aboard the Wurrfler when it was heading to Geheimhaven in 1936. When the Nazis took part in the hijacking of the Bantu Wind with which René Emile Belloq managed to capture Marion Ravenwood and successfully capture the Ark of the Covenant, but the soldiers were unable to find Indiana Jones, the sergeant was the soldier who reported to Dietrich that Jones was not yet found. As the Nazis returned to the Wurrfler, unknown to any of the soldiers, including the sergeant, Indy had followed them by climbing onto the ship's periscope. As the Wurrfler made its way to the Tabernacle, the sergeant walked with Belloq, Dietrich, Arnold Ernst Toht and the captive Marion Ravenwood to Geheimhaven to witness the Ark's opening, where they were briefly stopped by Indiana Jones who threatened to blow up the Ark unless Marion was handed back to him, but Belloq convinced Jones to surrender, and Indy and Marion were both tied up onto a stake as the Nazis prepared to open the Ark. The sergeant, along with the rest of the soldiers at the Tabernacle, watched Belloq lead the ceremony. After Belloq's body absorbed the holy fires of the Ark, flames shot outward from his body, killing all the soldiers, including the sergeant. The bodies of all the Nazis were then swept away by a whirlwind.
