The Serpent's Chest was an ancient container found in Giza during Nazi archaeologist Emmerich Voss' extensive excavation to find the Idol of Ra and the artifact hidden inside.
Voss estimated it to be from Fourth Dynasty Egypt but while one of the keys to open the chest remained somewhere in Giza, the other two had long been since been scattered, eventually ending up in Vatican City and Shanghai, respectively. Their general destinations had been chronicled in a medieval German manuscript but it was Indiana Jones, Voss' rival, who worked out their specific locations.[1]
While the Serpent's Chest was of archaeological interest in and of itself, the contents were even older.
