Helena Shaw and her godfather Indiana Jones, an honorary member of the family, in 1969.
The Shaw family was a British family of which Helena Shaw was part. Family members included:
- Basil Shaw - Patriarch and Oxford University archaeologist and professor
- Helena Shaw - Daughter of Basil and con artist who activities were noted by the CIA
- Indiana Jones - Honorary member of the family and Helena's godfather
Despite being part of the Jones family, the American archaeologist Indiana Jones was made part of the Shaws through Basil naming him Helena's godfather, despite not being related to them by blood. Due to Indy parting with them in somewhat bitter terms in 1951, when asked about their connection in 1969 by a Milanese Suit Man, Helena responded that Indy was simply mildly related to her.[1] Days later, however, Helena reconciled and would realize Indy was possibly the only family she had left.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Helena Shaw actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge described her character as being essentially an orphan by the time of the events of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, with both her father and her mother having long since passed away before she reconnects with Indiana Jones, having not seen him nor any father figure in a couple of decades.[3] The actual film, however, makes no mentions of Helena's mother, with the absence of a mother figure in the 1951 flashback implying that Basil and Helena live alone with their housekeeper.[1]
