The Shrine of the Sea Devil was an archaeological site, located underwater in the Pacific Ocean not far from the Marquesas Islands, guarded by the Sea Devil. It was reputed to contain great wealth.
In early 1935, Indiana Jones ventured to find the shrine, and using a deep sea diving suit, located and entered it. However, on his return ascent, the Sea Devil entangled him and also attacked the ship he was using, the Julie Anne. Jones managed to survive both the giant monster and the sinking of the ship by catching a ride with Amelia Earhart, who was flying solo across the Pacific.
