The Sistine Chapel (Italian: Cappella Sistina) is a Vatican City landmark known for its extensively painted ceiling depicting the story of Genesis by Michelangelo Buonarroti.
History[]
Archaeologist Indiana Jones visited the Sistine Chapel in October 1937 while disguised as a priest and viewed the ceiling, calling it Michelangelo Buonarroti's magnum opus.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
While much of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling is recreated for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the imagery is not an exact duplicate, with the labels of the ancestors of Jesus Christ all stating "Ozias" (Uzziah), "Iotham" (Jotham) and "Achaz" (Ahaz) across one side of the room and flipped backwards on the other rather than being unique to each image as it is in real-life.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure includes a plaque at the Biblioteca di San Barnaba in Venice, Italy, quoting a Mike Angelo criticizing the library's dull ceiling.[2]
