Suzette Chambin owned or managed Café Belgique, a cafe in London for Belgian expatriates displaced from their home country because of World War I. She was a war widow with several children, two boys and two girls. She and her family lived in an apartment above the cafe.
In May of 1916, she met Remy Baudouin and his friend Indiana Jones who had arrived in London and enlisted in the Belgian army. She and Remy had a whirlwhind romance and were married on the day he and Indy left to go off to the war.
She didn't see her husband again until after the end of World War I in 1918, when Remy and Indy returned to London. She helped convince Remy to go out and seek the fabled Peacock's Eye and even gave them a family heirloom to sell to cover their expenses.
