Talk:Staff of Aaron

Obviously, the Staff of Kings refers to the same historical artifact, i.e. the staff Moses used to part the Red Sea, etc. But the game and related documentation refer to that staff as the Staff of Moses, not the Staff of Aaron... and on some level, they are two distinct objects, the subject of two separate adventures. How do we want to reconcile the two? One article, a la Philosopher's Stone (which Indy has also encountered on multiple occasions)? Or two separate articles (Staff of Aaron vs. Staff of Moses), with either a disambiguation banner or a "see also"? --Icybro 16:39, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

  • I'm down with that plan. I did a little Wikipedia research, and I guess there is some confusion as to whether Aaron and Moses had separate staffs, so for our purposes we can assume they did. Aaron's staff turned into a snake before Pharaoh and brought forth three of the plagues in Exodus; Moses' staff parted the Red Sea. As far as I can tell, these descriptions are consistent with the Indy canon (Secret of the Sphinx and Artifacts, which explicitly discuss Aaron's staff; and Staff of Kings, which refers to Moses' staff), but this article currently asserts Aaron's staff parted the Red Sea.       • I looked through Secret of the Sphinx, and I couldn't find it. Page 87 talks about the Staff's ability to find anything; page 113 has it calling forth lightning; 159 says that when Moses held it up during battle the Israelites could not lose; 162 has it conjuring plagues . . . but no parting of waters. Can you cite the page number? I'm probably just overlooking it, but I'd like to know for sure, because if the Staff of Aaron parts waters just like the Staff of Moses, that's a pretty big blow to my "two distinct artifacts" theory. --Icybro 12:59, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
