- "Heathen intruder! You of the sunless, bloodless countenance! I, Tenochtitlan, god of war, reject your hard and tasteless flesh as an offering!"
- ―Tenochtitlan, to Indiana Jones[src]
Tenochtitlan was a god of war.
Biography[]
In May 1939, the American archaeologist Indiana Jones dreamt that he was rejected as an offering to Tenochtitlan, who beseeched his audience to throw him to the crocodiles, which he referred as "the Devil's creations". Upon hearing his intended fate, Jones attempted to escape but was engulfed by a volley of spears and arrowheads only to then awake and realize that the entire experience had been one of his more vivid nightmares.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Tenochtitlan, whose appearance opens the Dark Horse Comics' comic book adaptation of the LucasArts video game Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, was named after the capital of the Aztec empire.[1] He didn't originate from or appeared in the game the comic adapted.[2] It remains unclear, however, whether or not Tenochtitlan does actually exist in the Aztec pantheon of the Indiana Jones world or whether he's simply an invention of Indiana Jones' mind during his nightmare.[1]
