The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones is a comic book series that ran from 1982 to 1985 (cover dated 1983 to 1986) published by Marvel Comics.
The series was set in the time period following Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1936 with the final four issues moving into 1937. Thirty-four issues in total saw publication but at least two more were planned that didn't receive a release.
Five story arcs from the series were adapted for The Adventures of Indiana Jones role-playing game by TSR, Inc. in the mid-'80s. "The Ikons of Ikammanen" was used as an introduction for the base game's rulebook while the other arcs would follow as additional adventure packs, distinguished from TSR's retellings of the first two movies as being From the Files of: Indiana Jones.
Between 2009 and 2010, Dark Horse Comics re-released the comic series alongside Marvel's adaptations of the Indiana Jones movies in three Omnibus editions.
Unresolved and unrealized storylines[]
"The Sentinel", an early issue about Indiana Jones encountering an ancient clockwork man, was considered but ultimately unrealized beyond pin-up by John Byrne who quit the comic shortly after launching the series with "The Ikons of Ikammanen" two-parter.
The "Tower of Tears!" one-shot and the "Double Play!" story arc introduced the idea of a scattered group of seven sorcerers trying to destroy the world but the comic book was canceled with Indiana Jones having only faced down two of them.
According to the Readers of the Lost Ark letters section of issue 32, a story scheduled to be issue 35 would have explained the whereabouts of Marion Ravenwood.[1]
