The Howdy Doody Show

The Howdy Doody Show playing on a television at a nuclear testing site in 1957 in Nevada, United States of America.

The Howdy Doody Show was a very popular American television program that aired from 1947-1960, featuring a freckle-faced marionette, Howdy Doody, which was puppeteered by Buffalo Bob Smith.

When Indiana Jones stumbled upon a nuclear testing site in 1957 in Nevada, the show was playing in one of the houses,[1] whose "Ta-ra-ra-boom-de-ay" theme song was issuing from the set's tiny speaker.[2] As Indy climbed into a lead-lined King Cool refrigerator to shelter from the blast, the show's theme was playing shortly before being cut off by the explosion.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The theme might also be a reference to the intro of Back to the Future III, which features a TV playing “Howdy Doody”, as a nuclear testing site scene (and a time traveling fridge) was initially meant to be used in the Back to the Future series.
