The Major was an American major working for Allied Intelligence in World War I.

Biography[]

Shortly after the United States joined the war in 1917, the Major met Indiana Jones (then Captain Henri Defense) in Paris. At the time, the Major was seemingly assigned to French Intelligence, as an apparent secretary to Colonel Dupuis. The Major let Jones in, while informing Colonel Dupuis of Jones' arrival over the telephone.[2]

In 1918, the Major encountered Indiana Jones again. At the time, the Major was with American Intelligence in Venice, working under Colonel Waters. Despite having met once before, the Major subjected him to a test, to confirm his identity. Once Jones passed the test, the Major let him go to Waters' office, while the Major himself began talking to someone over the phone in Italian.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Major was played by William Armstrong in the "Transylvania, January 1918" episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.[1] The character's appearance in Adventures in the Secret Service is a noticably edited and re-dubbed version of his scene from "Transylvania, January 1918".[2][1]
