Presentation for the product-line by Icons.
The Treasures of Indiana Jones was the title for a proposed licensed product-line by Icons based on the iconic MacGuffins from the Indiana Jones films, but the company's plans ultimately didn't go ahead.[1]
In 1995, Icons came up with securing the Indiana Jones license due to it feeling like a natural property to base film replicas of historic icons. To pitch for the line's approval, Icons went on a visit to Skywalker Ranch the following year to conduct extensive product development in the Lucasfilm Archives warehouse, finding detailed photographs and videos taken from the development of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.[1]
As part of the research, Icons tracked down the original mold and master for the Holy Grail prop used during the production of Last Crusade in the United Kingdom, developing a 1:1 scale prototype of the Holy Grail cup that was displayed in the memorabilia adorned conference room of the company's headquarters in Sun Valley, Idaho and in North Hollywood, California. The prop replica was considered a "gorgeous, 1st generation casting" taken directly from the screen-used original prop, custom painted to simulate an oxidated and ancient cup, being hand applied a gold-metal leaf and directly fabricated under the supervision of Film and Television professional craftspeople.[1]
The prototype, as of 2007 at the very least, wears an original Icons inventory tag reading "Indy III Holy Grail Proto" which counts with a permanent metal stamped/numbered Icons sticker that reads "Property of Icons", even counting with an original corporate letterhead hand-signed by the company's former CEO/President back in 2000. In addition, it is accompanied by a variety of R & D artifacts relating to the development of the company's planned license, with unpublished, hand-drawn, full color conceptual drawings of other artifacts like the Chachapoyan Fertility Idol or the Cross of Coronado produced by Daren Dochterman, one of the the trilogy's production illustrators and one of the project's major contributors in the vision/branding fields, even organizing a marketing and advertising campaign with James Latta with an early rendition of the company's logo at the bottom of the advertising concept's head portion.[1]
