A Theatre Critic was seated next to Professor Indiana Jones during a 1993 performance of Broadway Melody at the Palace Theatre in New York City.

Biography[]

In 1993, the cynical and smug theater critic was jotting down harsh remarks before the curtain even rose, prompting the elderly Indiana Jones, who was sitting next to him, to challenge his judgment. The critic defended his preemptive review by citing "experience" and insider gossip about troubled rehearsals. This sparked a spirited debate between the two men, with Indy accusing him of valuing scandal over substance and questioning whether he was truly qualified to critique a performance he hadn't even watched. Their argument led Indy to recall his own experience working on a Broadway show during its golden age.[1]

After the performance, the critic surprised Indy by praising the effort behind the production and declared his intent to give the show a glowing review. However, unimpressed by what he saw as a lackluster performance, Indy called the show "dreck" and scolded the cast and crew for falling short of Broadway's legacy. Dismayed, he stormed out, leaving the critic stunned and speechless.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Theatre Critic was portrayed by Louis Turenne in the bookends of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles episode "New York, July 1920", later edited into Young Indiana Jones and the Scandal of 1920.[1]
