A Nazi soldier participated during the Reich's effort to find the Holy Grail in 1938. He served under the orders of Colonel Ernst Vogel and became the third and last of three Nazis to be felled by one bullet fired by Indiana Jones.

Biography[]

In 1938, during the Nazi effort to find the Holy Grail, this German soldier served under the command of Colonel Ernst Vogel.[1]

Upon the arrival of the Nazis at the Republic of Hatay, he was ordered by Vogel to travel on one of the trucks driven by Nazi drivers during the quest of the Temple of the Sun. When the archaeologist Indiana Jones appeared on the scene to rescue his father Henry Walton Jones, Senior and Marcus Brody from Vogel, who had took them as hostages inside his tank, the soldier along with his companions were called by Vogel to help him kill the American.[1]

After seeing as the first of his companions was beaten by Indy, he and one of his comrade jumped out of the truck to help their superior, lining up behind their beaten comrade, but Indy hit the beaten comrade with his pistol in the face and then shot the comrade in the chest, killing him and his teammates in the process. His body subsequently fell from the tank to the desertic ground.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The third one shot, three kills Nazi was portrayed by an uncredited actor in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.[1]

During the early development of the film's original script, written by Jeffrey Boam, additional Nazis to fight against Indiana Jones were absent with only Walter Chandler (Walter Donovan in the final film) and the Hatay Tank Driver present.[2]

In Rob MacGregor's novelization, the soldier dies just like in the film but the bullet passes through his groin instead of his chest.[3] In the comic book adaptation by Marvel Comics, the soldier is the second one shot by Indiana Jones, as his first companion actually seemingly survives due to just getting punched by Jones and seemingly knocked off the tank. That said, Indy shoots in a way that the bullet passes through the soldier's stomach instead of his chest and where his body goes afterwards is left unknown.[4]
