Thomas Griggs was a 19th century Charlestown slaver.
In 1835, Griggs advertised that he was looking to buy slaves at the highest price and offered to purchase the men, women and children that anyone was looking to "dispose of".[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Thomas Griggs was a real individual whose May 7 advertisement was included as part of From Slavery to Freedom[1] as well as one of the illustrations for the documentary's section of the Interactive Timeline. The timeline mistakenly captions the advert as being from "circa 1853".[2]
